Silly Sammer the Whammer

Our kid makes the funniest noises. Here he is below with his newest sound. This is self-taught...I don't know where he got it! And no, we don't always eat dinner in front of the TV. Our dinner table was (and still is) a complete mess. Ha!

We are leaving for Texas tomorrow morning to see my family. Looking forward to seeing them and my little niece Taylor. She's a cutie! When we get back, I'll post pics of our Christmas and the blizzard of '09. Wow. 14 inches of snow! IN OKLAHOMA.....ON CHRISTMAS EVE! What are the odds...

Who wants white chili???

With cold nights in our hopefully near future (I am so dang ready for cold weather!) - what better way to warm up than to eat a nice big bowl full of white chili. This is my most favorite recipe - and I'm sharing it with you! I got it from my boss' awesome family cookbook - and made some adjustments to it as well. Enjoy!

White Chili

1 med onion, chopped
1 tbsp minced garlic
1-2 tbsp olive oil
4-6 chicken breasts, cooked (chopped or shredded)
6-8 cans white beans (navy, northern, garbanzo, cannellini, etc)
1 14oz can chicken broth
2-3 tbsp cilantro (chopped)
2 4oz cans green chilis (chopped)
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1-3 jalapenos, chopped (optional)
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
1 lime - use only juice
1 8oz package colby jack cheese

Saute onions and garlic in oil. Combine all ingredients in large crockpot. Can cook all day on low. It makes a big crock full!!!

Jon is a big fan of putting it on top of Fritos with some sour cream, shredded cheese and jalepenos. Yummmmy!

Sam's 12mo portraits!

We had Sam's 12mo pictures taken today. He was all over the place - it took 2 photographers and a mommy and daddy to try and keep him in the area to take the pics. But, we got some really cute ones!!!

The place we take him is great. They take the pics, we choose the ones we like, they print them right there and we walk away with our pics and the cd of ALL the pics they take, not just the ones we buy. And it's relatively inexpensive too!

Here are the ones we bought. I posted a link below to the rest of the pics on the CD. I didn't realize how red my kiddo's hair is.....I wonder where he got that from??? (*wink*wink*)

Happy Birthday Sam!

A year ago today, our family grew by two feet....two adorable, walking everywhere, tripping over everything little feet! I can't believe my little guy is one. He has brought us so much joy this past year.

We had a little birthday bash for him this past weekend. My entire family came up from Texas to help celebrate as well as Jon's family and a few buddies. Boy our house hit it's maximum capacity, but we had a good time. And let me tell ya - this kiddo is SPOILED! We need a bigger house to put all of these toys :)

Here's some pics of his big day.

Sam is 11 months!

My baby turned 11 months old yesterday. Wow - time flies when you're having fun and are as busy as you've ever been, huh??? He's such a happy guy. Walking everywhere now and he thinks it's the coolest thing in the world!! He's learned that pulling Barkley's ears makes Barkley make a funny sound (poor pup - he's a trooper though!). Whenever Sam sees something that sparks his interest he whispers "wow-wow" like he just saw Disney World for the first time. It's great! I can't wait to actually take him there someday.

Here's a couple of pics of the little guy - he's all boy!

World of Trouble!

Yep - that's what we're in for, a world of trouble. Sam is walking!!! And he couldn't be more excited about it. We are so proud!! And astonished at how fast time is flying by - he's almost 1. Wow.

I really plan on keeping up more with this blog. It's insane how busy we've been. We are taking a trip to the lake with some friends this weekend and my parents are coming up to watch Sam for us. We are excited to get away for a few days, but I'm sad too :( I'm gonna miss my little buddy!

Big Blue has arrived....

So, Jon and I decided to go out and buy a big ugly blue pool. This eyesore is right smack dab in the middle of our backyard - but we LOVE it! It even puts a nice blue tint in our living room, but hey - that's what curtains are for....

Today was our first day to enjoy swimming and beating the heat. We learned a few lessons getting it set up (ie, the ground needs to be PERFECTLY level), but nothing too drastic.

Sam seems to enjoy it - at least once he figured out that swimming is fun :) He had a confused look on his face for quite a while. Looking forward to a summer full of fun!

Our weekend trip to Texas

Here's is a picture of my adorable little niece that I got to hold this past weekend. She was born May 24th and weighed 7lbs 14oz. I love her so much already!

We had a great weekend with the family in Texas. We cooked out at my sister and BIL's house and visited with my family. Sam got to see Taylor for the first time, and play with his buddy Cody (my cousin's little boy). He also got to go on a couple of "mule" rides with Grandpa and Marma. My brother Reagan and his girlfriend Courtney have a new puppy named Ryder that Sam just LOVED. It was just his size! Here are a few pics from the trip. I didn't take many, because Sam is on the move constantly now....but here's some :)

We're in for it now!!!

Ok - it seems like just the other day, we were SO excited that Sam rolled over. Now - we just can't stop this little guy!!! He's crawling everywhere! And, this is what we walked in to see this afternoon....

Just yesterday, he figured out how to pull himself up to standing, and that's all he's been doing since. FYI - we lowered the crib just now to as low as it'll go....we'll probably be investing in a crib tent soon, because I can already tell he's gonna be a climber....

who needs toys???

Sam is most interested in anything that is NOT a toy these days. Remote controls, Barkley's crate, air vents, the space between our laminate floor and the sliding glass door that we really need to cover soon, calculators, cell phones, and most of all.......the keyboard. Thanks to Daddy - he now has his own. Enjoy!

(And, no - Barkley isn't ALWAYS in his crate whining. lol.)

money saving momma!

I'm just gonna give myself a little pat on the back :)

In talking about being more wise about our spending, clipping coupons, etc - I just have to brag about my deals this weekend. I went to CVS, and took advantage of some of their Extra Care bucks deals...combined w/coupons, etc. I got $134.31 worth of stuff for $45.23!!!! Toilet paper, soap, makeup, diapers, wipes, miscellaneous other items we use on a regular basis.....

There's nothing like a hobby that doesn't cost anything, AND actually saves you money!

Here's a couple of pictures of a bubble Easter here at our house last night!

Sam, being his cute little self!!

Even grandmas get their hunt on....

I love this picture. My grandma(left) and Memaw(right) - back in the day. Checking out their baskets of Easter eggs! I guess this goes to show you that even in old age, you can still have a little fun :)

These two sweet little ladies have been such a blessing on my life as well as countless others. They will be missed dearly this Easter, but have both gone to be with our Saviour and will celebrate with HIM! There is nothing greater.

Hope you all have a wonderful Easter!

Ramblings....

Ok, so someone flipped me off on my way to work today (an older lady in the passenger seat of a Lexus). Not even sure why, except maybe she was upset I was going my usual 5 over the speed limit and she wanted to go 30 over? Who knows. What a way to start off the morning!

A few of us at work have started couponing and I'm saving a TON of money - on things I buy on a regular basis. In past, I've tried couponing, but always end up buying things I normally wouldn't - resulting in spending more than I intend :) Now that I am understanding how to work the sales, etc - I am actually a bit upset with myself that I didn't start this sooner! It's extra work, but the savings has been worth it so far. I've got some favorite couponing blogs I enjoy reading on the right-hand side of my blog - if you're interested in checking it out.

Here's a fun picture of Sam that his Aunt Liz took at her house - I love this little guy so much!!!

OH! Two more things:

1. My friend Jennifer and her kiddos are collecting sock donations for her church's Mexico Mission trip in the fall. You should check it out - Socks Project!

2. I've added a subscription link on the upper left-hand side of our blog if you would like to subscribe to us by email. I'm not even really sure this works yet, but give it a try!

Oh geez....

Wasn't I supposed to have a little more time to prepare?!?!? lol.

From Sam is scootin'!

PS - That is Mr. Barkley whining in the background. He's still getting used to not being the center of attention :)

Little Sammy Butt Crack

"Little Sammy Butt Crack" - doesn't that totally sound like a fun poem or song we should come up with???

For anyone who knows my husband - this is even more hilarious than just baby plumber crack :)

Sam is 6 months!

I am so behind! Sam celebrated his 1/2 birthday this past Monday! Time is flying by - I'm sure by next week he'll be 18 and out on his own. :( He had his 6 mo. checkup and the doc said he's a happy healthy baby!

We went to get 6 month pictures done and LOVE them! We ordered 5 poses I think, but we got the cd of all the photos they took. Here's a link:

Growling Sammer....

Well, I finally got video of Sam growling. This is one of his many new tricks lately and it cracks us up!!! He really is one tough guy. Oh, and he's mobile too. Today, he rolled himself halfway across the office. Holy moly!!! I was supposed to have more time to baby proof the house! Guess I know what I'll be doing asap!

Sam is 5 months!

I can't believe Sam is 5 months - he brings so much joy to our lives! He's sleeping through the night, loves snuggling with his blankie at naptime, loves playing in his exersaucer, is ticklish under his neck like his daddy, laughs at all of Aunt Liz's funny faces, and is the only one who enjoys mommy's silly songs :)

He's had a very eventful month. He started eating cereal and is now on carrots, went to his first birthday party (Happy one year Molly! We had a great time!), and started going to Mother's Day Out on Wednesdays and Fridays. Of course, after his first week of going - he got sick and now he's on antibiotics :(

Now, Marma (my mom) is on her way as we speak to come for a visit. We are looking forward to it!

Here's some pics (some is, as always, an understatement) of Sam this past month!

They call me Grace....

As most of you know - I'm a klutz. All my life, I have been getting hurt in some stupid random way or another. About a year ago, I decided to compile a list of some of the stupid things I've done in my life (not all....definitely not all) and posted on MySpace...thought I'd update and post here to give everyone a chuckle at my expense.

Age 2 - decided to drink humidifier fluid. Thankfully - this is something I don't remember, but I was told I was given something that made me throw it all up.

Age 4 - July 4th 1984....probably the biggest klutz moment of my life. A sewing machine cut the tip of my right index finger off....yes, a sewing machine. The lid of the sewing machine, to be more precise. I was playing "bank" with the toilet paper - by putting a piece under the lid and slamming the lid down (i really don't know what that has to do with banking, but that's what I was playing). Apparently, my finger didn't get out in time and what they call a knife hinge (appropriately named) hit it at just the right angle. No more fingertip. I was given the choice of cutting off my toe and sewing it on my finger. At age 4, I was no dummy. My first thoughts were "then I'll be missing a toe?" and "i don't want to pick my nose with my toe!".

Elementary - I got my arm stuck in a couch for an hour. I fell out of a treehouse. I was jumping on the couch, knocked a lamp over and set the house on fire. I thought it'd be a good idea to make a necklace out of the piece of bubblegum I was chewing - it wasn't. I shut my left index finger in a car door, needing a splint. I went skating and fell, grabbed on to a piece of tin - and sliced my left index finger again leaving what I call my "neosporin" scar. Remember that commercial with the finger and the bandaid - before neosporin and after? Except my scar looks like the "before" picture. I don't have good luck with index fingers....

Middle school - I hit a tree with my bike trying to show off. I ran over a smaller tree with a riding lawn mower. I crashed a moped, scraping the heck out of my right leg. I spilled a very hot bowl full of chicken dumplings on my legs, leaving a pretty bad burn.

High School - a car trunk fell on my head, leaving me with 8 stitches. i threw my arm out of socket while twirling. In gym, I tried to jump against a door to see how high I could go, landed on the doorknob and had a softball size bruise on my thigh for a few weeks. It looked like my parents beat me. I hit and killed a dog with my car....while the owner was walking him.

College - I forgot sunscreen on a 6-hour floating trip....and I'm a redhead. I fell down a flight of stairs after class. My luck, the guy who stood there watching me was one of Jon's good friends that I would meet again at a later time. He remembered my infamous fall. I fell down another flight of stairs at my friend's wedding. (I'm not really good with stairs).

After College - I fell off a ramp with a wheelbarrow, spraining my ankle. I have fallen out of my office chair at least a couple of times, once while on the phone. I thought I had a flat tire on a really icy day, so at a stoplight I opened my car door, got out to look, slipped and fell twice trying to get back into my car before the light turned green - no flat tire. I bent over to pick up a towel and threw out my back. I got to laughing so hard with my best friend Kendra that I fell off the couch and hit my side on the coffee table leaving a bruise that lasted a couple of weeks. I've gotten an infection on my forehead after bending over and hitting my head on my office desk - and I was allergic to the antibiotic they prescribed me, which gave me an itchy rash all over my body. The tip of my missing finger now gets infected frequently from changing Sam's diapers.

Yes, I'm surprised I made it this far too! I sure hope for Sam's sake that my gracefulness is not hereditary....

Sam 4 months!

Sam turned 4 months old yesterday! He's so much fun and full of personality. We found out this month that he will be having a little baby girl cousin. Congrats to my sister Abby! We are very excited to meet Taylor Grace :)

Here are Sam's 4 month pics. I also had a little fun with a video we shot of Sam rolling over. Enjoy!

Can I have a redo?

Seriously, can I have a re-do on this day? Barkley got sick and puked and peed in his crate. Sam has had an explosive #2 which got all over him (and me) - then peed on everything (including me) as soon as I took the diaper off.....and it's not even NOON! Gotta love boys!

Sam will be 4 months old on Friday. I'll have more pictures to post then, but here's a couple of fun ones to keep the grandmas happy :)
