Are those old wives right?
Here are the tests I tried out - with results:
Chinese gender calculator - GIRL
There was some confusion with this one, because you are supposed to put either your actual age or your lunar age - along with your month of conception. However, we would be on the cusp of two different months (December and January - yes, most likely New Year's) and my actual age was 28, though it says my lunar age is apparently 29. So, I tried all combinations and it produced GIRL the most.
The Drano Test - BOY
Absolutely my favorite test to do. It actually felt like I was in science class again, doing a backyard experiment. Although, mom really did it while I safely watched from inside. According to our instructions, you basically pee in a jar, mix Drano crystals in it and watch what color it turns. Ours turned a dingy brown color - meaning BOY. I'm guessing because boys love dirt. Mom swears it was right for all three of us when she tried it back in the day. We'll see!
Heartbeat Test - GIRL
I'm not sure what to think about this one, because I've only heard the heartbeat twice. The first time was at about 11 weeks and it was in the 170s. The second time, it was around 15 weeks, and it was in the 140s. They say heart rates above 140 are indicators of girls. Any lower, and you have yourself a boy.
Cravings - BOY
They say if you can't get enough of sweets, you've got yourself a girl. However, if you're craving sour - there's a boy in your belly! My only consistent craving has been strawberry limeades - which are both sweet and sour. Twins??? Ummm, doubt it. I'm gonna say boy - just because I crave the strawberry limeades more because of their sourness!
Wedding Ring Test - BOY
This was an interesting test I decided to do when I was bored in my office one day. It said to take your wedding ring and dangle it over your belly with a strand of hair. If it goes back and forth - it's a boy, and if it goes in circles, it's a girl. Mine was a definite back and forth.
Husband Test- BOY
I don't think this is an official old wives tale, but I've heard from my friends that their husbands just knew what they were having. They just had a feeling. I asked Jon and he wasn't being very cooperative - there was no feeling whatsoever. However, he did say he'd love a boy, and that he gets what he wants, so - I'm using that as his "feeling". I told him if he supposedly gets what he wants, then why isn't he wanting a million dollars right now! That'd be nice! Also, they say if the husband gains weight during the pregnancy, it's a girl. Jon says his pants still fit the same!
Other people's opinions - BOY
I have had more people tell me that they just have a feeling it's a boy. The results of the poll, well, if I hadn't screwed it up, would've been 2 girl votes versus 5 boy votes.
The "Me" Test - GIRL
They say if you're having a girl - you will have bad morning sickness, and your beauty will be drained. Yea, my beauty is definitely drained! HA! If it's a girl - she's sucking what little beauty I had right outta me! I've got acne now and my hair looks like crap on a daily basis. And, there was definite nausea early on. So, I'm saying GIRL based on that. Plus, my initial feeling was GIRL - even though I have absolutely no clue whatsoever now. I did read somewhere recently that 71% of women guessed the gender correctly. Hmmm.
Statistics Test - TIE
This is my own little math nerd test I formulated during one of my sleepless nights. Out of my girlfriend bunco group - the girls who have babies or are pregnant all have girls - no boys. That means out of 4 girls who have had babies recently, or are about to - they are all girls. Of course there are 3 of us that are pregnant who don't know yet. However, at work, the 2 other programmers all have boys. No girls. That's 4 boys. So, statistics don't really help me out here. I'm just letting you know how much of a math dork I am....
So - the majority of the tests I've tried point to BOY.It really was a lot of fun trying to guess. Of course - I'm definitely gonna leave this up to science because that's the only real way of telling. We will be happy with a son or a daughter! We just want to know!
4 more days!!!
We are participating in a neighborhood garage sale at my SIL's house May 8th-10th. We had one last year at our house, and really made a killing! And, we still had stuff left over that we were going to donate....that's still in our garage from a year ago. So, combined with more crap that we decided to get rid of - we have enough for another garage sale this year!
Jon made me go through all my clothes and get rid of some of them. I decided this year, I'm going to throw out my "yea right - you wish" clothes, and my "don't torture yourself" clothes, and my "like you're gonna be able to wear this after the baby" clothes. Now, Jon is a true believer in closets being as empty as possible. I, of course, believe that an empty space in a closet is wasted space and something must go there! Seeing as how he was very happy that I got rid of all those clothes, and I was very depressed to see them go....I told him once the baby gets here and I lose at least SOME of the leftover weight - I'm going on a guilt-free shopping spree. He agreed - but I don't think he understands my definition of "spree" :)
I've been trying every gender prediction that I can find - so sometime this week before the ultrasound, I will post my findings! It was all fun - but I'm ready to know for sure!

Oh poo!
Blast from the Past
And, if that wasn't enough - before braces, I had to have a spacer, which created a lovely gap between my two front teeth that I could stick my tongue through sideways. Man, I was hot stuff!!! And I wondered why the boys weren't calling :) I'll have my mom find a picture so I can post it. She'll never find the "pig" picture though. This is an infamous picture around our household. One day at Memaw's house, I decided it would be funny to stick my nose up against the glass door like a pig, and have someone take the picture. Ok - are you getting this? Imagine the hair, the glasses, the gap, freckles, and now - a pig nose. I'm a glutton for punishment. This picture has been used as blackmail for years. I think one day I found the picture and trashed it....I think....
There's also another picture of me and three of my friends at our elementary graduation. Three of us had the huge glasses. All of us had the tight-rolled jeans, keds and our orange Grand Saline Indian shirts on. It looks Nerd Day at school :) I'll have mom find that picture too!
Looking back though, I wouldn't change all the "nerddom" for anything. That is what made me who I am. And, it gives me something to laugh about today. I'm sure our little Jondice will have plenty of nerdy moments, but I want him/her to come out of it smiling - with humility and plenty of love for others!!!
Seven Random Facts
Here are the rules:
1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share seven facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3. Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
Here are my random things about myself:
1. I have horrible road rage, that has increased exponentially since the pregnancy. I'm really trying to work on it though. However, I do constantly tell the baby not to drive stupidly :)
2. I have this weird obsession with light switches. Sometimes, when I quickly turn off the light - I have to go back and make sure it went completely down. I really don't know why - and it's almost too weird to even admit :)
3. I love cottage cheese - especially with cocktail sauce. It's amazing. However, cottage cheese with any kind of fruit makes me want to gag.
4. I wear earplugs to bed. My husband snores - loudly - and I believe it's what has kept us sleeping in the same bed :) I call them my little foam miracles. And, I really am fretting over not being able to wear them when the baby gets here.
5. I play indoor/outdoor volleyball on two different teams - one on Mondays and one on Wednesdays. However, this is the first year in 4 years that I won't be playing because I don't want to risk any injury to baby Jondice. And, I miss it so much!
6. Since the beginning of this pregnancy, I have loved the smell of beer. I, of course, don't drink it now - but Jon lets me sniff his whenever he has one! Now, that's weird!!!
7. I was a mean sister. My sister Abby and I shared a room growing up. She had this ritual of getting into bed, which involved plopping her head down on her pillow. Occasionally, I would put a book in her pillowcase so that she would bang her head....and I would just laugh :)
Okay, now here is the list of who I'm tagging....they may participate or not but this was kind of fun so join in if you want. Since I don't know 7 people that blog yet, I am just adding the people I do know.

My ultimate weakness....
Last night, we went to Ricky and Jackie's for a movie night. We had pizza (my second ultimate weakness) and watched Walk Hard...which wasn't too bad! It got some good laughs out of us :) Jackie mentioned, after I had my 4 pieces of pizza, that she had bought chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream (cccdic)! MY FAVORITE! This was no ordinary cccdic - it was LOADED!

I could probably eat this entire thing in one sitting - it was so good! I'm going to try and refrain from buying this, but I can almost guarantee that my fat butt will be waddling down the frozen aisle looking for this the next time we go grocery shopping! For the sake of controlling the weight gain, let's hope they're out of stock :)

16 weeks and 4 days

I almost decided not to crop out my face in the second picture, because it just made me laugh! However, it was just such a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, AWFUL look, that it would be more embarrassing for me than funny!
We had a good weekend. Friday night we went to my MIL's for dinner and played Rock Band. I was the drummer this time - and I am a very bad drummer :)
Saturday, we cleaned all day. Then we had Kendra, Jackie, and Ricky over for hamburgers. My parents gave me "real" beef from a "real" cow last weekend, and wanted to try it out. It was awesome! I also made mint chocolate ice cream. Yum. Since we have cleared out Jon's "game room" for the baby's room, he had to move the xbox to our bedroom. Here's a pic of Ricky and Jon killing alien terrorists on our bed - too cute!
Sunday, we went to lunch at Souper Salad and went window-shopping all afternoon. I got some good walking in, which I'm going to start trying to do everyday now that the nausea/exhaustion has gotten better and the weather is getting nicer.
It was a good weekend!

Weekend Catchup
I had my "older lady" bunco night. One of my friends that used to work at SNU started it up over a year ago. They are such fun ladies!!! I ended up winning the jackpot - $60!!! Usually, the pot is split up amongst 4 winners, or prizes are handed out. Not this time. The hostess decided to award one person the entire money pot! And, by the hair of my chiny chin chin....(and rolling a 6) - I drove home with 60 bucks in my pocket :) Can't beat that!
Saturday
Jon and I woke up early, made breakfast, and I packed for my trip to Texas to see my family. Jon had big plans of finishing the flooring in our bedroom, and since I would be completely useless - and would probably get sick from all the dust accumulated - we decided it would be a good time for me to drive down and visit the fam. The drive is about 5 hours. I've gotten used to it - since I've been making the same drive for about 9 years now. Wow - 9 years!
I got to Texas at about 3pm and my Uncle Tom, Aunt Sharon, cousin Susie, and her baby Lucy were coming to visit. Susie just had Lucy a little over 4 weeks ago. The doctor had to deliver her early - so Saturday was actually her original due date. She is so precious!!! With a head full of the blondest hair!
Later that night - mom made steak and baked potatoes and we all ate until we couldn't eat anymore, and talked and laughed around the dinner table.
Sunday
Sunday, we woke up and I made the awesome breakfast blossoms for breakfast. My cousin Meggie, her husband Bobby, and their son Cody were coming by for lunch - hamburgers!! Cody is adorable. He's a year and a half and he's such a miracle! I'll probably get this completely wrong, but - he was born with a tumor blocking his airway. He now has a trach that allows him to breathe normally until he gets old enough to have the surgery that will hopefully allow him to breathe on his own. He's not able to talk or cry. Other than that, he's walking around and getting into everything - like any other baby his age :) Meggie has been teaching him sign language- he now knows over 70 words!!! He taught me how to sign 'dog' and 'hat' and other words. What a little genius!!
Monday
We woke up on Monday morning, and realized we hadn't done the drano test we had planned to do this weekend! Mom and I ran to Brookshire's (grocery store) and bought some drano (with the crystals - very important!). The drano test is the "gender" test you can do at home. It's, of course, not something to rely on - but is still fun to do. My mom said she did it for all three of us kids, and it was right each time. And, it was right for my aunts too.
You're supposed to pee in a cup - just a few ounces :) Then, have someone else take the cup outside with a glass jar of 2 tablespoons of the drano. Be sure the glass jar is at least a 12oz jar. Pour the pee into the glass jar and stand back. There will be a reaction for a few minutes - that produces some pretty stout fumes. Make sure the momma-to-be is nowhere near the fumes!!! Once the reaction is finished, observe the mixture:
If it has turned a dark, brownish color - you've got a boy!
If it has remained the same - you've got a girl!
Well, according to our little backyard experiment - we've got a little boy! We'll see here for sure in a few weeks - our ultrasound is May 2nd!
Afterwards, I made the trip back to Oklahoma. Road rage has definitely increase due to the pregnancy hormones!! However, I'm back and our floors look AWESOME!!! Big props to Jon and the Burks for getting that done!!! They did such a great job :)
