My Mom's Cake Fiasco!

This is too funny not to share!

The annual Duke Family Reunion was this past weekend. My mom decided to bring a cake with funny figurines of our family placed on it. To avoid having to make the cake and do the writing, she decided to place the cake order over the phone to Brookshire's (a grocery store in my home town). She told them that she wanted a full sheet cake, with plain white icing (no decorations or color) and the following written in black writing at the bottom of the cake:

Duke Family Reunion 2008
The Dale Duke Family

They called her the morning she planned to pick up the cake to verify what she wanted. She told them again to write at the bottom "Duke Family Reunion 2008-The Dale Duke Family", and to be sure and center it and to make SURE and put this at the bottom of the cake.

When she went to pick up this monstrous cake, the lady opened up the box to make sure it was her cake and got this mortified look on her face. She said, "This isn't right, I've got to get the girl that did this out here". The cake said:

At the bottom
Duke Family Reunion 2008
The Dale Duke Family

"At the bottom" was actually written on the cake!!!! Not only that, but the writing was crooked and could've been done better by a first grader! She had them remove "At the bottom" - here's her masterpiece, after all was said and done:

I think, aside from the writing, it turned out really cute! And, she's got a funny story to go with it!

I'm a glutton for punishment

We are working on the nursery today! I'm now taking a break and decided to post some fun pictures. Here's a few pics from when I was much younger.

This is a much tamer version of the infamous "pig" picture. This is, however, NOT the actual pig picture, because if it was - you would have the pleasure of seeing the huge gap in my front teeth!! Notice my cute little brother's tongue up his nose. Growing up, and still to this day, whenever he is in deep concentration - he's got his tongue up his nose!

My week so far...

It's Friday, and so far, it's been a good week.

Monday
After a stressful morning at work, the afternoon turned out much better when I set up my office at home. After my 6 week maternity leave, I will be working from home for a while :) It's been a fun week getting that set up and I can't wait to use my new office!!! I'll take pics of it once we tear up that nasty carpet and put the new floors in...which hopefully will be soon!

Tuesday
Hmm - I don't really remember what I did Tuesday. I'm guessing I went home from work, ate, and slept.

Wednesday
Jon had the day off. I worked from home in the morning, and had the afternoon off for my dr appointment. We went to Santa Fe for lunch, and then stopped by Liz's house to visit with her and Hank before we went to the appt. Jon dropped me off at the dr's office. I told him I was going to talk to her about my weight gain to see just how off track I was, and that he really didn't have to be there unless he really wanted to, because I'm avoiding him EVER knowing what I weigh! My dr did the glucose testing this time, and measured my belly for the first time! I'm 24 weeks, measuring 26!! Sam is always gonna be 2 steps ahead of me :) After every "weigh-in" at the dr's office, I allow myself to go hog-wild at dinner, for lack of better words. We went to Pizza Hut, and let's just say that Sam REALLY loves him some pizza!

Thursday
06/05/03 - This is the day Jon and I first starting dating - our fake-iversary as we call it. 5 years! He has brought so much joy to my life. He is a wonderful husband and will be a great father! I had ordered a faux ring online to wear in place of my wedding rings for now, because they no longer fit because of swelling. I received my faux ring on our fake-iversary....how fitting! Here's a pic:

Yesterday evening was filled with me in the kitchen preparing two lasagnas for my lady bunco group this evening. Pepperoni-sausage lasagna!!! It's a new recipe I'm trying out. I'll post it if I deem it worthy :) But, looking at it last night made our mouths water! I can't wait!
