4th of July in Iowa!

We had such a great time in Iowa over the 4th! The drive was, well, exhausting, but we all had fun!

Early Thursday morning (around 6am) we packed up Liz and Bernie's suburban and headed off. It was me, Jon, Liz, Bernie, and baby Henry. Once we got to Kansas City, MO - we decided to stop for lunch. A few months ago, we all were watching an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri on the Food Network. They had visited Mama's 39th Street Diner and we were mesmerized by their food - or as Guy would put it, "it's like Christmas time in Flavortown!". They had homemade corned beef - so I, of course, got a reuben. It was AMAZING! But, not as good as the lemon-berry marzipan cake we had for dessert....it was "off the hook"....

We got to Urbandale, Iowa around 6:30pm - twelve hours later. We were very tired, but glad to be there! Here's some pics of the welcoming commitee :) Thanks Patty - I hijacked your pics!

This is Sam's first picture with his great-grandparents :)

Our nephew Henry, with his great-grandparents.
He was such a good baby on the car ride!!!

That evening, we sat around on the deck visiting and eating. Jon met his new girlfriend Mackenna that night. Yes, I've been replaced by a cute blonde! They played in the bird bath and caught lightning bugs all night long.

Mackenna, 3 years old

She was so adorable!!! She just fell in love with Jon - he is her "favorite boy". He was wearing a red shirt on Thursday - so she called him the "red boy". Friday he was "blue boy" and Saturday he was her "favorite boy"....they had a lot of fun!

Friday morning, we got up and went to the parade. Jon's grandpa walks in it every year. Here's a few pics:

Here they come!

Hi Grandpa Darrell!!

Jon, with Kenna in his lap. She's wearing her "ear clubs" because the firetrucks are loud!

Henry - tuckered out....

That afternoon - Jon, Donnie, and Bernie helped Aunt Pam work on her deck. Pam let us crash at her place during our trip and was such a gracious hostess!!! Thanks Pam!!!

They got a lot done, while I took a much needed pregnancy nap!

That evening - we had a bbq at Darrell and Neva's. I ate SO MUCH FOOD! It was awesome!

Saturday was full of rest and relaxation. Pam made us breakfast. After breakfast, Jon and I went upstairs and fell asleep until around noon! Can't beat a nap right after breakfast! That evening, we went to church and then to Mustard's - a restaurant in Iowa.

We visited the remainder of the night and said our goodbyes before heading off to Pam's for the night.

Henry's first 4th of July!! He is such a doll!

Henry, Kenna, and Greyson

Sunday morning - we headed back to Oklahoma City. We left a little before 8am and got back around 6pm. We went to pick up Barkles at the kennel and spent the rest of the evening in bed watching episodes of 24...our new addiction :)

It was a good mini-vacation, filled with lots of memories!
