She flew in Thursday night and we were welcomed by a rainstorm Friday morning. Great. There was a 40-50% chance of rain Friday and Saturday - so we were praying that it wouldn't interfere. It was perfect! Not once did it interfere with our plans. It did rain Friday morning and Saturday morning - just enough to get the dirt nice and loose for us to dig up. Thank you Lord!
Friday we went shopping for plants. Friday was fun and exciting stuff! We went to a local nursery and to Lowe's and loaded up the car with plants, stopping at Souper Salad for lunch. Yummmm! We picked up Sam from MDO around 3pm and headed home. We actually got everything planted in the front yard the rest of the evening and then treated ourselves to steak and baked potatoes!!! Double yummmm!
Saturday we went to Lowe's and Walmart to get more dirt and mulch and flower bed liner for the back yard. When I say more dirt...I mean MORE dirt. Geez - all in all I think we bought 30 bags of manure, 30 of top soil, and 30 of mulch. No joke. Maybe even more than that. Let me tell you - it's fun to spend money on plants...but spending money on manure is crappy. Literally. We finished everything in the back yard Saturday night and ordered out at an awesome italian place nearby.
Sunday was more laid back. Jon wanted to paint the front of the house so mom and I went to pick out paint. After a few trips to Sherwin Williams, we were satisfied with a color and started painting! Wow. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Jon and I looked at each other and said "why didn't we do this a long time ago???". Who knows. But it's done now and it looks great.
We worked from Friday morning until right before we dropped mom off at the airport Sunday evening. It was well worth the work and going over budget! (which I assumed would happened, but was hoping wouldn't). Oh well. Looks great and that's all that matters!
Only one injury for the whole weekend - and it was of course me. After we finished painting I was walking to the front of the garage, looking back at our nice handy work. I tripped over a stack of bricks and scraped up my leg really bad! Kids walking down the street must've got a good laugh.
A HUGE thanks to my mom for helping out. Love you!!!!
